Welcome to Tropical band

To most people the phrase "tropical bands" bring a pretty clear picture to mind - a bunch of shirtless guys playing calypso music. But to experienced shortwave DXers those two little words express the most challenging and enjoyable part of the radio hobby. The phrase kindles memories of a DXer's best catches and favorite QSLs, of exotic stations, music and of early morning listening sessions. (Don Moore)
I like the "Tropical band" name for new 60m allocation. (OK1RP)

Effective from 1st Jan 2017 please paper QSL via OM-bureau only.

K5P - Palmyra Isl. on 60m from EU

Hi all,

so there is just short report about K5P on 60m band from my side...

After several mornings of monitoring the ch4/5 I can say that finally no beeps came thru from Jerry, WB9Z as K5P in Palmyra isl. to my QTH in Czech Republic.

Last two morning I though that some very weak sigs coming thru in between 05:00-06:00Z but finally no way to work and maybe it was more or less my wish then reality...

I found that LZ and few other EUs reported copy of K5P but I realized according to their log that no one from EU worked them on 60m band during this event.

I tried to use W2PM receiving loop, short - 40m long BOG as same as single element Hi-Z vertical on the garden as an external TX antenna, but no way. Even although I used K3 and tried to make all magic tricks with setting I have to honestly say, NO beeps.

If you will check the statistics of the K5P operation then you can realize that even some AF stations worked them on 60m. Great job and I am sending big congrats!

The total of 206 QSOs on 60m including the 192 NA and even 10 OC stations is an excellent job specially when we will wise up to the strong Chinese radar local QRM in their area on this band.

I would like to thanks to Jerry Rosalius, WB9Z (Crescent City, IL) for very good job and his great kind effort in order to put KH5 on 60m band as much as possible and allowing to many of DXers make new one over there!

Thank you to K5P crew for good job and hope to better condx next time from next location.

All other Czech 5 MHz permit criteria remain as before (Max. Power 100W e.r.p., 3 kHz Max. Bandwidth), there is now no limit to the number of permits available which is also good news for 2016.

So it is not necessary to occupy the international frequencies for local chats and keep them clear for real DXing!

I would like to thanks to CTU as same as MoD for their effort and ability to co-operate on new bandplan and permits conditions.

Good luck,

New 60metersonline webpage by Joe, W8GEX & team

Hi all,

in the beginning of the year 2016 we got an excellent news from Joe, W8GEX regarding the new webpage 60metersonline.com ...

"Before I get into the new web page I would like to thank Bill AJ8B for his hard work on the former website. Recently, Bill asked that I find a new webmaster, as he is just too busy at work and with his family to devote the time needed.

I have two non-ham friends who are a great team in doing websites. They agreed to take on this task at no charge. In revamping the site, we now have a new domain that ends with “.com”. The address (URL) of the new website is: www.60metersonline.com

Our new webmasters have developed a site that is informative, easy to navigate and has a lot of good information about our band. We hope you like it and we encourage you to tell others about www.60metersonline.com , in order to promote 60 meters.

We would like to add more pictures of those that are active on the band, as it is always good to see who we are talking to. A picture of you at your station or antenna farm would be appreciated. Please send your photos, along with a short bio to: “webmaster@60metersonline.com

The cost of activating 60metersonline (domain name and hosting service) was $111 US, and there will be an ongoing annual expense to keep it alive. I paid the first year, so that we could get started. We will depend on donations to help with the future expenses. The site has a PayPal button for your convenience in making a contribution. Your donation is very much appreciated! There is so much information we can share to help promote 60 meters and this should be of great value.

Awards: at this time we have the WAS award. The rules and application can be found under the “Achievement” button. Those operators who have 50 countries or more are posted here. NOTE! We realize that the WAS Recipient list is not current and we invite you to help us bring it up to date. Please inform me of any needed changes and/or additions.

We want to get 2016 off to a good 60m start and hope you enjoy the new website. Any questions or suggestions, please forward to me at w8gex@aol.com
Thank,
Joe W8GEX"

I would like to thank Bill, AJ8B for his job and I would like to thank Joe, W8GEX for his effort in order to get new webpage and start it using his own private budget for the first year. We should try to help him even by small donation to collect enough budget for the next years.

Also it will be great to start more participate by sending the informations, news and any kind of useful topics to webmaster in order to make the new webpage as interresting and updated as possible please.

My best regards,
