The New Zealand 60m trial which was due to conclude on 24th January 2020 has been extended for 6 more months by the NZ regulator, RSM and NZ Defence Force to give time to work out a more permanent solution.

"As you know, we have a 60m website, www.60metersonline.com. It was built and is maintained by Mike, a non-ham friend of mine, at no charge to us. Because of recent changes by the provider, Mike had to rebuild the entire site which took a lot of time. He does a great job and we certainly appreciate the time he devotes to our hobby.
It’s time to renew our domain name and pay for the site. The renewal is for three years and I am asking for a donation from each of you. I haven’t asked for money in quite a while but it is needed now to keep the website active.

This has nothing to do with my 60m DX Newsletter as I do this as a volunteer to promote 60 meters.
I know many of you use this website, so we need everyone to help.

VU7 - Lakshadweep Islands: M0KRI, Shabu, has announced his plans for a DXpedition to the Lakshadweep Islands.  He will be using the callsign VU7RI from October 19, to November 3.  This will be a three man team.  More details are expected.

HH - Haiti HH6/N3BNA and HH6/K3MSB, Dale and Mark, will be in Haiti on a short work trip, May 4-11.  Not sure about how much they can be on the air; they do hope to do some 160 and 60M.  QSL HH6/N3BNA for KA2AEV and HH6/K3MSB to his own home QTH

Western Kiribati: This year will be T30GC activity only! I will be there together with Mitko, LZ3NY. T30GC activity will be between 7 October 2019 and 23 October 2019. The tickets are purchased, the accommodation is reserved and the license is obtained! Yes, we will be QRV on 60 m during T30GC activity!  I will try to operate more time on 60 m - CW and SSB. A ministerial decision dated 26th February 2019 published in the government gazette of 5th March 2019 introduced a new Frequency Allocation Table, which authorizes amateur radio use of 5351.5 - 5366.5 kHz, on a secondary basis at 15W EIRP under the ITU 60m amateur allocation decision of WRC-15.

The 9G2DX team led by Dov Gavish 4Z4DX and Haim Lewy 9G5AF will be working 3 different locations in Ghana.

 

Location 1
The beach near the capitol city of Accra will have operations on 160, 80, 60, 30. This operation will begin on March 9, 2019 and run for about 3 days. CW,SSB and FT8. The seaside beach QTH is ideal for low band operations.

 

Locations 2 & 3 (Outstanding Flora & Fauna Sites )

 

Location 2 9GFF-0007 Flora and Fauna Shai Hills Resource Reserve all bands and modes

 

Location 3 9GFF-0004 Flora and Fauna KAKUM all bands and modes

 

For the final days of the DXpedition, the team will return to the beach QTH near Accra for more activity on 160, 80, 60, and 30m.

DARC: Radar makes 5 MHz band 'useless' !

Germany's DARC reports: Once again we have problems with short wave radars. On almost every evening at 5310-5410 kHz the Russian coastal radar 'Sunflower' broadcasts. This also makes our new miniband useless

A Google translation of their post reads:

The system is located near the city of Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea. Acoustically we perceive it as a deep hum. It transmits in FMOP (Frequency Modulation On Pulse) with 43 sweeps / sec and captures aircraft at a range of up to 450 km.

Over water ships are recognized. Even stealth planes can be classified. The system is so successful that the Chinese operate several "sunflowers" on the east coast. Chinese OTHs (Over-Horizon Radars) work almost daily in the 20-meter band. 

In the mornings we can often receive them with high field strengths. They send in blocks of several seconds and jump over wide frequency ranges. Very noticeable is the radar, which resembles a foghorn sound (66.6 sweeps / sec). The worst "QRM brooms", however, are the broadband radars of the Chinese. They work with 10 or 20 sweeps / sec and a signal width of 160 kHz.

In the mornings we find them in the 20 m band and in the evening also in the 40 m band. There they are particularly noticeable when the transmission line is in the dark. At the moment we have extreme problems with the new Container Radar from Russia. It works as an over horizon radar in FMOP with 40 sweeps / sec and a signal width of about 40 kHz often for hours in the 20 m band. In the past few days we see two systems side by side on our SDR screens. 

The station is located north of Penza and not far from Saransk. On the S-meter we see S9 + 40 dB and sometimes +50 dB. The DARC-Bandwacht has informed the BNetzA-Konstanz [Federal Network Agency].

8P9AE - Barbados on 60m by Sigi, DL7DF and crew!

Hello,

next DXpedition of Sigi, DL7DF and his crew will take place from Barbados between November 06 and November 20, 2018. They will be active with three stations from 160m through 10m on CW, SSB and Digi modes.

Sigi, DL7DF and crew got yesterday (10Nov18) permision for 60m from Barbados as 8P9AE. They are on the air from tonite (11Nov18). First QRG was 5353 and QSX up. They had really amazing sigs on 60m band and it was relatively easy to work them even with low power in the WRC-15 band allocation. http://www.dl7df.com/8p9/

The equipment consists of a transceiver Elecraft K2, two transceivers Icom IC7300, two OX1000 power amplifiers, one power amplifier, a vertical for 160 and 80m, a 40m loop, a 30m loop, a Spiderbeam for 20m through 10m, VDA antennas as well as a few laptop computers.

If you do not provide the right return postage or a self addressed envelope, we reply via the buro. Please only one call sign per envelope! If more than one, all additional cards go via the buro.
Postage needed for 1 envelope with 20 Gramm (FYI): A letter within DL = 70 Euro Cent, a international letter costs 90 Euro Cent. 1 US$ is equal to 83 Euro Cent. So please keep in mind that 1 US$ - due to the bad exchange rate between the US$ and the Euro - does not cover the postage needed for an international air mail letter!

The island was uninhabited when first settled by the British in 1627.

Perhaps of interest, I was able to work XW4XR Bruce on 60m FT8 (on 5357 around 1822 UTC). He also worked 5B3ALX. I’m not sure if he is a "known" operator on 60 as I’m relatively new myself.

Report on Aruba:
I finished my new End-Fed (EFHW) for 60 + 30M! So 60M operation is planned during my 2 week holiday-style DXpedition to the island of Aruba, modes to be used will be SSB & FT8 on 80 ~ 10M including WARC + 60M using 2 EFHW's + 100W, both new antennas need to be tested/adjusted at our rental house/garden (taking my Mini60 analyzer with me ;-)) but spare transformers & radiators (40/20/10 + 30/17/12M) will be taken with us as luggage weight/room will allow!

Operations are planned from Saturday 17th November +/- 20:00 UTC until Thursday 29th November +/- 16:00 UTC (I will spot myself when QRV) first weekend probably mostly 80/60/40/20/15/10M, 2nd weekend (during CQWW-CW) mostly 60M + WARC!

I recently found this information on Facebook. I think we can conclude that 60M operations are officially allowed on the (Dutch) Caribbean Island of Curacao (PJ2)!

MONTENEGRO LATEST TO JOIN 60m

The latest update to the Montenegro National Frequency Plan (p. 37) from the country’s telecomms regulator, EKIP, lists a new band at 5 MHz/60m, namely the WRC-15 Amateur Secondary Allocation of 5351.5 – 5366.5 kHz with 15W EIRP, which has been confirmed by national society, the Montenegro Amateur Radio Pool (MARP).

LZ1GC Stan is planning a two man operation from Vanuatu, but first a single op DXpedition from Samoa. It all starts September 28, as 5W0GC from Apia, Upolu Island (OC-097) by Stan. He plans to be on CW, SSB and RTTY on 60 Meters.

Next it's on to Vanuatu where he will team up with OM5ZW, Lubo, where they will operate as YJ0GC from October 15 to November 4. As for their antennas it will be verticals for 160, 80, 60. Again CW,SSB and RTTY. http://www.c21gc.com

HA - Hungary is back on 60m band...

Hi all,

 

The Hungarian telecoms regulator, NMHH ( The National Media & Info communications Authority – Hungary ) has published in the Hungarian National Gazette No.7 of 29 May 2018 an update to the National Frequency Allocation table 7/2015 on the use of frequency bands (X1.13), which initiates the WRC-15 Allocation of 5351.5 to 5366.5 kHz with 15W EIRP maximum power. Previously special 3-month permits were available, allowing 5350-5450 kHz at 100W, but these were discontinued in 2017. ( Tnx: HA3FLT, MRASZ, NMHH )

3Y0Z will transmit CW and USB modes on 5.400kHz and will listen for Europe on 5.353kHz.

We will listen for FT8 on 5.357kHz.
We will transmit low between 200 and 500Hz and listen up. PLEASE don't TX on our freq.

OK - ZL on 60m challenge opened

Hi all,

as the Kiwis mates got an experimental permission for 60m band already the OK - ZL 60m band challenge is opened.

Unfortunately the 10W/15W e.i.r.p is allowed on both sides so the question is... is it possible to work them on this band using moderate or even desperado-bad antennas?

The VOACAP says "mission impossible"...

In any case the external receiving antennas for 60m band as same as large antennas on of the sides are promising few percentages... Well I am going to try the receiving loops and if neighbors will allows then also temporary Beverage for 60m band reception.

Do you know this farm?

The worse situation is with my TX antenna as I have still only low inverted V dipole with folded legs on the post-stamp lot... even worse with 15W only.
