Hello all,
first of all I would like to wish to all friends healthy and peaceful New Year 2014!
I hope that You will meet more friends on the air and You will enjoy the 60m with lot of fun.
I am happy to say that I got the permit for 60m band operation from OK land after 2 years again!
Individual permit for amateur radio service on experimental purposes base says:
Validity until: 31.12.2014
Frequencies [kHz]:
5288.5
5330.5
5366.5
5371.5
5398.5
5403.5
Used call: OK1RP
Based on the experimental operation in the 5MHz band report and after the MoD agreement the CTU is now able to allow the operation on more channels in the band for 2014 see the table.
The permit holder is requested to prepare and send his experimental operation report to CTU no later than 31.10.2014 in order to make analyze of the operation on different frequencies and modes.
The frequencies indicated in the permit are dial USB frequencies.
The max. power should be 100W E.R.P.
The allowed modes should be USB, CW(+1.5kHz)
The only 10 permits is available for 2014 based on written request to CTU.
The permit holder should follow the IARU recommendations for 5MHz operation and agreements (5290kHz allocation for beacon operation etc.)
This experimental operation permit on 5MHz band is strictly allowed on SECONDARY basis and general rules for the these users must be observed all the time in order to NOT jeopardize primary users operation on this band!
My best regards and see You on the air again,
73 - Petr, OK1RP

No latest vogue styled shop window just pile of information & news for 60m band DX-ing enthusiasts...
Welcome to Tropical band
To most people the phrase "tropical bands" bring a pretty clear picture to mind - a bunch of shirtless guys playing calypso music. But to experienced shortwave DXers those two little words express the most challenging and enjoyable part of the radio hobby. The phrase kindles memories of a DXer's best catches and favorite QSLs, of exotic stations, music and of early morning listening sessions. (Don Moore)
I like the "Tropical band" name for new 60m allocation. (OK1RP)
Effective from 1st Jan 2017 please paper QSL via OM-bureau only.

Studies of Ionograms show supremacy of the 5MHz band
ICASA has extended the SARL 5 MHz license till the end of January 2014. This follows SARL application for ICASA to review the license and grant facilities up to at least the start of the WRC 2015. Currently the SARL holds a pilot license for 5 250 and 5 260 kHz. While the SARL applied for extension of the license for a further period it also appealed to the Chairperson of ICASA, Dr Stephen Mnube, to consider issuing the SARL with a long term authority to use these two frequencies to continue propagation research till at least the WRX15 conference.
The SARL is currently analysing the results of the special weekend 5 MHz activity event held in early November. The winner of the book prize is Barry Newton ZS2NF of Uniondale.
STUDIES OF IONOGRAMS SHOW SUPREMACY OF THE 5 MHZ BAND
The ionograms generated by the South African ionosonde network clearly illustrate the supremacy of the 5 MHz band for short range, near vertical incidence skywave (NVIS) communications under certain conditions. These typically happens during the morning and late afternoon when the 7 MHz band does not support short range, sky wave communications and the 3.5 and 1.8 MHz bands suffer from high noise levels.
During the middle of the day the 7 MHz (and 10 MHz during high solar activity) band is typically the most effective medium for short range, sky wave communications.
Permanent access to the 5 MHz band will ensure that the amateur radio community can efficiently contribute to emergencies requiring short distance communications beyond line-of-sight as typically required in hilly and mountainous terrain.
The South African ionosonde network is unique in Africa and place South African radio amateurs in the very fortunate position to monitor reigning, short range propagation conditions and to improve their skills and experience accordingly.

New WebSDR receiver available on 60m by Salvador, C31CT
Hello,
today I found the comment from Dezo, OM5NA about the WebSDR receiver with 60m band information coming from Salvador, C31CT as follows:
Salvador, C31CT informed me that since 22th December the Ardam ham radio club WebSDR receiver, at Ordino, Principality of Andorra was extended by another receiver monitoring the 60m band. Currently there are 4 FunCubeDonglePro+ receivers on 20m, 40m, 60m and 80m, connected to a dipole antenna direction East/West. This WebSDR is aviable at:
http://ardam-andorra.no-ip.org:8901/
TNX Salvador, C31CT for that information.
73, Dezider OM5NA
Thank You to both for this news. It can be helpful in order to check the propagation, band opening, checking if channels are occupied etc.
best regards,

EA - Spain on 60m by Javier, EA7OP - updated
Hello all,
as Javier, EA7OP informed the very good news is coming
from Spain...
The SETSI allowed EAs to operate on 60m band from Jan - July 2014
on channel basis.
Allowed channels [kHz]:
5268
5295
5313
5382
5430
5439
The bandwidth to be used is 3kHz.
Power output 100W. Modes CW/SSB.
So it´s great news and we will be happy
to meet EAs on 60m band in 2014.
Updated 23-Dec-2013:
Thanks to great job of Paul, G4MWO and his confirmation gotten from guys at URE the Spanish national society its confirmed that posted new channels are CENTRE - i.e USB dial frequencies are 1.5 kHz below the stated frequencies.
Many thanks to Paul as same as URE guys!

TU5NK on 60m by Petr, OK1RP
Hello,
there is short band report from yesterday evening when I monitored the band in order to catch Jan, TU5NK...
I switched ON radio even on 20Z and I realized that band condition were great. UK stations went thru very loud and all beacons were S9 + 10dB. Also the activity on ch5 was really huge and I listened to OU5U, G's, VX9MRC, Dave, A92IO with really big sigs and mni others.
Around 22Z I switched to 5371.5 and after few mins I found Jan as TU5NK in QSo with US guys. Unfortunately I had really excessive local noise QRM which masked me lot of time Jan's sigs on this channel but I have to say I copied him well. Sigs peaked 35 to 46 and also US station called him were strong.
When I switched back to ch5 I was surprised with lot of stations from US with so loud sigs in my location. W3ORU, Jeff, K0OD, VX9MRC and other were really strong and clean on the band. Dave worked on the channel for long time and switched between USB and CW so lot of callers was able to work him.
When I switched back to ch4 I was surprised because over the Jan, TU5NK I realized that there was some another station but I was not able to copy who it was. I tried to recognize the callsign but unfortunately I failed in so strong local QRM.
How about You and TU5 on 60m from last few days?

TU - Ivory Coast on 60m by Jan, DJ8NK
Jan DJ8NK is on Channel 4 (5.371.5) from the Ivory Coast as I type this. Its a new one for 60 meters. Listen for him tonight and the next few nights. I suggested to him to come on the top and bottom of the hour. Spot him on the cluster so everybody knows he's on the band. I think this is the fourth new country he has put on for us.
Bob WH6XM reported " I'll be monitoring channel 4 (5.371.5) more often during my night hours. Also be transmitting periodically".
73's
Bob WH6XM
As Joe, W8GEX mentioned Jan, DJ8NK is operating as TU5NK and will be on channel 4 again tonight (28.11.2013) at 2215Z. This is a NEW ONE on 60m. I will be glad for any reports about his signals around EU/WW.
Good luck,
